What is NAMI?

The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is a nonprofit, grassroots, self-help group which offers support and advocacy to persons with mental illness, families, and friends of people with various mental illnesses.

Founded in 1979, NAMI has more than 210,000 members who seek equitable services for people with severe mental illnesses that are known to be brain disorders. Working on the national, state, and local levels, NAMI provides education about these illnesses, supports increased funding for research, and advocates for adequate health insurance, housing, rehabilitation, and jobs for people with serious mental illnesses.

NAMI Rappahannock

NAMI Rappahannock is an affiliate chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). We are all advocating to bring more awareness and education to erasing the stigma of mental illness.

NAMI Rappahannock is fortunate to have veteran members who have spent years working as loving and caring volunteers for persons with mental illness. They have learned their lessons the hard way, by living and caring for their loved one. They are examples of courage and hope that is contagious. They are here to take your hand and walk with you on your journey.

Groups

Due to the Coronavirus, all in-person classes, and programs have been cancelled for now. We do have two online support groups  for adults with a mental illness. There are also other online support groups available.
